You may remember earlier this year I photographed the Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osbourne at Blackpool Pleasure beach for Insider Magazine. I have been meaning to go back to Blackpool to get some architectural photographs of the Pepsi Max Big One, the roller coaster that dominates the whole of the south shore of Blackpool, Lancashire (you can even see it when traveling into Blackpool on the M55).

Well I finally got around to it. Here are a few images from a set I intend to add to the site later on this month.

As always feedback would be very welcome.

What a mad day. Two portrait session for my project in one day. I haven’t had chance to do anything on my project for weeks then two come along in the same day.

I met architect Karl Zaldats of MRA architects at his house in Lancashire for a portrait session this morning. All very nice an relaxed we tried different lighting and setups, had a few cups of tea and got the shots in the bag very quickly. It has to be said that Karl was a superb subject, did exactly what I asked and trusted me.

This afternoon I met Michael Taylor from Insider Magazine at Ewood Park, home of Blackburn Rovers, if you dont already know Michael is a huge Rovers fan. Anyway I got there an hour early to suss out what I was going to do, the staff at Rovers have been excellent and very accomodating even though we re-arranged the shoot only days before, thanks Jennifer you are a star. The shoot took around three quarters of an hour, as with Karl earlier, Michael was superb and was happy for me to do what I wanted.

The results of both shoots are great, again, it is all about having the time and being very organised, and being left to get on with it. Thanks guys.

Only a few more to photograph for my project then all will be revealed.

I found George Osbourne an odd character, confident and nervous, almost like a little boy, very weird.

He is as you probably already know from one of my previous posts the same age as me, 38!, yes 38!, I thought he was in his late forties. I think I have aged better.

This photographic portrait of Tim Jolly the then marketing chief executive of Princes (not sure if he still is or not) was to accompany an article in Food Manufacture magazine.

I was asked to get the usual corporate head and shoulders photographs, photographs of him in front of the Liver Building (as this is where Princes offices are), Liverpool and anything else I felt was appropriate and you guessed it I had 10 minutes.

I ditched the idea of doing the shots outside as it was raining and we really did not have the time. What could I do.

I first of all got the standard head and shoulders photographs in the bag.
Then I decided to use my brand new 2 day old Nikon 35mm F2 Lens. So I got in close, shallow depth of field and used available window light. I had at the time been going through a phase of off camera flash, so it was quite a departure.

A little bit of post production (just the monochrome and the vignette) and there you have it. All in about 10 minutes.

A while back I was asked to do a rush editorial photographic job for a business magazine. It was to photograph Peter MacGregor the boss of MacGregor Europe a haulage firm based in Lancashire.

The brief – ’The photographer needs to get a photograph of Ian with his fleet’.

Well it was Friday afternoon in mid December, it was cold and damp, I turned up and not unexpectedly for that time of year all the trucks where out on deliveries.
We experimented with few photographs in his office with a map to show the areas covered, not really what I wanted but that’s all we had to work with.
I suggested we try something outside, I then noticed the roller shutter to the garage.

Fantastic!

I asked Ian to stand against it , arms folded, hands in pockets, you get the idea.

I decided to go with this photograph in the end, nice, simple and graphic.

The editor of the magazine loved it, the magazine designer loved it, unfortunately it never appeared, why?

The magazine was on deadline and they had hired in an assistant designer who just used the first photograph I had submitted, you guessed it the map shots.

Gutted!!!
