Rome

January 18th, 2010

Just spent best parts of a week in Rome. I have been before but what still amazes me the scale of things and most of this grand architectural stuff from the Colosseum to the Palatine was built without modern technology. Take the dome of the Pantheon, it is still after two thousand years the largest unreinforced concrete dome, this is amazing, it has survived wars, sackings uprisings etc etc and it still stands.

Even with modern architectural techniques I doubt that these ancient structures could be built easily  (please correct me if I am wrong).

The first time I went to Rome was with a group of friends, one of them had got cheap easyjet tickets (£1 I think) so we decided to go, I was not bothered either way. I had seem Rome on the TV and had no particular opinion, however I was totally wowed by the place. I have to say second time around it still has the wow factor.

As you can probably gather I took a few photographs whilst there, to many to show here so here are five of my favourites. I have kept them nice simple straight forward black and white images. I would love some comments.
