Continuing the Autumn photographic project,  over the weekend I decided to photograph my first pumpkin of the year. This was the first to ripen.

I kept this really simple, just natural daylight through a window, nice slow shutter speed and stopped down aperture,  thats it nothing else.

The work of German photographer Karl Blossfeldt (1865-1932) was my main source of inspiration. His work was so simple and elegant almost akin to a line drawing.

I think I will use this style for my Autumn Project, that is until something else chatches my eye!!

Hopefully this week I will get around to photographing the Midland Hotel in Morecambe, Lancashire

The Art Deco period of architecture is my favourite architectural era (along with brutalism), the vision of the future, clean modern, white, unfussy, utopian, this is how we where all going to live.

As a child I remember visiting Morecambe, Lancashire and seeing the hotel and thinking it looked so modern (albeit in a state of disrepair). Unfortunately I have not seen it since its renovation by Urban Splash.

Lets hope we get a nice day towards the end of the week when I can at least make a start visually exploring this building.

Continuing the theme of my Autumn project here are a few more photographs of dead stuff. Again this is work in progress so I am experimenting with colours and styles etc. Autumn is a great time as plants become more architectural. Many people cut them down when they die but I prefer to leave them all winter until the first shoots of spring. If you have any comments or suggestions please feel free to post

Hello again, you may remember a few weeks ago I photographed Chris Harrison the Group MD of Fresenius Kabi Ltd & Calea UK http://www.padams-blog.co.uk/great-corporate-photography-session/, we spent a couple of hours creating corporate portrait shots of him.

After the session I was asked if I could photograph the building for a 60×40 inch and 40×40 inch canvas for Chris’s office.

I had to wait for the appropriate weather, I needed a harsh very bright sunny day. Last week we got a few of them so I took myself off to Runcorn and spent a whole afternoon on site.

Here is the photographs they choose. I am really looking foward to seeing the final result printed large. I will be using Mike Shepherd services at Photosynthesis in Lancaster he is an absolute expert on printing and delivers superb results every time.

Autumn photographic project

September 8, 2009

You may remember from one of my previous blog entries that I was inspired to restart photographing plants again after visiting Kew Gardens in London.
Autumn is a great time as plants become more architectural. Many people cut them down when they die but I prefer to leave them all winter until the first shoots of spring. Well here are a few of photographs of dead stuff, I hope to add more, not sure of the style yet, I think I like it but I may change it yet. Please feel free to comment.
