QM2 and the Threes Queens, Liverpool
Last Bank holiday Monday I was up at 5 am to get down to the Pier Head at Liverpool. 5am Bank Holiday...madness. This had been in the planning for a few months, so myself, my wife and two close friends headed down to Liverpool to see the three queens - these are the three Cunard cruise ships that where visiting Liverpool to celebrate 175 years of Cunard.
Michael (one of my good friends) wanted to get close up to the Queen Mary 2 as he had worked on the ship a number of years back and wanted to say hello again. All four of us arrived at Pier head at around 6.30 to get some good shots of the QM2. It was cold, grey and I was tired but worth it. I have never been up close to a cruise ship before and could not believe the scale, massive!! We spent a good hour and half talking about and photographing the ship then headed for breakfast in preparation for all three.
Later on in the morning QM2 headed out to the Mersey Estuary to meet the Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria, to then parade down the river later on in the afternoon.
It was getting v busy and there was a really good atmosphere (as you would always expect in Liverpool!!). We could not get the same vantage points we had earlier in the day but that was of no real concern as we where only really there to get shots of the QM2.
Why am I telling you about a day off on a bank holiday. Well normally I would not take my full camera kit out with me on a day out, usually just my trusty x100s. But this day required long lenses as Michael really wanted some nice detail shots of the QM2, so it was like a working day but not and something of historical significance.
Anyway enough waffle here are some shots of the QM2 and one of all three queens.
